Tour #4 – The Grasslands and the Production of Grana Padano D.O.P.

Duration: total of about 4 hours including a visit at the dairy plant to view the production of cheese.

This easy level mountain bike trail leaving from “Chiosco del Mincio” and riding along the surrounding farmland and grasslands.
Initially riding on low traffic paved roads towards Maglio and Soave we then take the bikeway Mantova-Peschiera d/G riding north towards the southern tip of lake Garda. After a few kilometers, passed the nearby towns of Marmirolo and Marengo, we’ll arrive in locality Massinbona where our guide will show the historic Mill (circa 1150) and the fascinating medieval Chapel of S. Pietro in Vincoli (circa 1100) with a classic rectangular floor plan on a single naval and the distinctive shed-shaped facade.
We’ll take the bikeway to the town of Pozzolo to then ride on dirt roads along the Mincio river following its gentle curves down to Falzoni locality, where the tour guide will show you a scenic view from a special panoramic point.
From there we continue on a municipal road with a gentle uphill and a little far from the basin of the river to reach our destination.
OUR MAIN DESTINATION: Dairy Plant San Pietro in the town of Cerlongo.
At Latteria San Pietro you’ll have a unique opportunity to witness in person the process behind the production of the famous Gran Padano D.O.P and taste the different stages of aging of the cheese.
The Dairy plant’s store offers the chance to purchase all local produce and to get them delivered the Chiosco del Mincio for you to pick up at the end of the bike tour.
At last the last few kilometers to return to the Chiosco del Mincio where a deliscious snack will be awaiting you.
